The GSU was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the 90′s. As a result, we are governed by a By-Law and a Policy Document.
By-Law
The by-law governs the operations of the corporation in terms of the executive (board of directors), financial accountability requirements, etc.
The by-law document is available in print form from the GSU, or below in PDF form:

At our January 15th, 2011 meeting, GSU Council passed the following motion:
BIRT the GSU council approve the following temporary amendments to article 7 of the by-
law. The amendments would be in effect for the 2011/2012 term of office and
BIFRT the executive review the impact of the amendments and report to council in the fall of 2011 with recommendations.

Policy
The Policy Document governs the operation of the GSU as a representative political body. The clauses therein have the force of a by-law, but do not require the approval of Governing Council to change. It includes policy about committee membership, finances, executive honoraria, signing authority, financial arrangements with other organizations (such as OPIRG), etc.
The Policy Document is available in print form from the GSU, or below in PDF form:

Other
In addition, the GSU has several standing contracts with businesses housed in the GSU building, with the University of Toronto regarding occupancy of our building, and a Protocol (the “COSS Protocol”) affording GSU decision-making power in the administration of U of T Ancillary Services. These documents can be viewed at the GSU office, upon appointment.
