PERSONAL STATEMENT

It is my third year on the GSU executive. I have served as Executive-at-Large, Treasurer and now President. Serving for these three years has expanded my experience in advocating for student issues. Together with fellow members of the executive I have advocated for accessible post-secondary education, increased funding, space for student representation on various university committees and equity. As president my mandate this year is to continue to advocate for quality in the graduate student experience. This will entail engaging graduate student discussion around issues that concern their academic and social life, protecting academic freedom, intellectual property rights, copyrights, supervision and post-residency fees. I will continue to focus efforts on increasing graduate student participation in decision-making processes through consultation across departments, advocating for acceptable minimum guaranteed funding and monitoring the impact of graduate student expansion. I welcome graduate students to contact me on all these issues, and any others that concern you. Further, I encourage you to actively participate in student activities within your own department.
