Connie Guberman is the Status of Women Officer. An Advisory Council consisting of faculty, staff and students assists in determining office priorities, activities and initiatives which include all three campuses. Some of these include:

Providing education, advice, orientation and community development on equity issues affecting women students, staff and faculty, as well as
Organizing events including International Women's Day, the December Memorial and Take Back the Night
Coordinating a Mentoring Program for isolated and/or marginalized undergraduate and graduate women students
Producing a "Critical Issues Brochure" for women students at UTM and UTSC

In the Fall there is a special session for new women graduate students, organized jointly by the Status of Women Office. Areas needing attention include the student/supervisor relationship, building self esteem, racism, having a life beyond study and work, sexual harassment.

The Centre is just across from the GSU at 563 Spadina, on the ground floor (room 100) and is open Monday to Thursday 11-6 pm, and Friday noon-4pm. Drop by and use our lounge and anti-oppression resource library, or call us for more information.

The Women's Centre is committed to providing a safe, harassment-free drop in space for all women on campus. We provide free support, referrals, resources and advocacy on issues of sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism, violence, health and poverty through our peer support program, workshops and educational programming.

Join the Collective or a working group - put your knowledge into action! Attend workshops, film festivals and other exciting happenings. Check out our kitchen and food security programs, community cupboard, nursing corner, children's play area, community resource table and info board! Our $1 fee (50 cents for part-time students) is refundable during the month of September. Call for details.

Is A Career in Academia For You?
A Workshop for Women Graduate Students

If you are a female graduate student interested in a career in academia, you should plan to attend this annual workshop. Join your peers for a free lunch and engaging sessions on issues ranging from what you can be doing now to improve your chances of getting an academic position, to the realities of academic work and life. Workshops explore insights on post-doctoral research and how to start an academic career, as well as helpful hints for impressing search committees. The workshops will also discuss and explain the types of academic contracts available and the ways in which you can successfully negotiate your first employment contract.

This women-only event creates a welcoming and positive environment for under-represented faculty and female students who are able to be a bit more candid and comfortable while they share their stories with each other.

This workshop requires your advance registration. Information will be available in the GSU email digest.
