1. Health & Dental Insurance Change-of-Coverage Period
A message from your Health Plan Administrator. Welcome to the new academic year. Starting September 1, please visit the Graduate Students’ Union website: www.utgsu.ca/insurance for the following:
Opt In and Opt Out Dates: September 1st to October 2nd, 2017 (no exceptions will be made if you miss the deadline.)

2. Gradfest Feedback Form
Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us yesterday at Gradfest. We hope you had as much fun as we did! We are in the process of collecting information on how we can improve this event for next year. If you have 5 minutes, please fill out our feedback form: Gradfest Feedback Form.

3. Sign Up for the UTGSU Volleyball League
The UTGSU Volleyball league will be starting in October. Three divisions are available – Recreational, Intermediate, and Competitive – and the league will run Monday to Wednesday nights from 5pm to 11pm. Registrants can register individually and will be grouped together or placed with another team. Last day to register for the league is September 15 at midnight. More information about the league and how to register is available online at https://www.utgsu.ca/volleyball/. If you have any questions please feel free to email volleyball@utgsu.ca  and/or come to Gradfest where we will have a table with information about the league as well the opportunity to register in person.

4. Levy Groups Opt-Out Periods
As part of your UTGSU Membership fee, you have access to different levy groups that provide a variety of different services. Please see each levy group in the link below for specific instructions on how and when you can opt-out of these services: Levy Groups Opt-Out Periods.

5. Free Graduate Student Intramurals
The UTGSU, with support from SGS, have subsidized costs for all graduate students to participate in free intramural sports. To gauge what sports, teams, and divisions graduate students are interested in having, we ask you to fill out the following form: Graduate Student Intramurals. This will help the Intramural Coordinator tailor the Intramural session for the Fall Semester. Stay tuned for an email in Mid-September for a confirmed list of sports, teams, and divisions for the Fall Semester. 6. International Students’ Caucus is Recruiting New Executives
The International Students’ Caucus (ISC) is now looking for new passionate executives to join the team. The ISC is a group under GSU mainly serves international students’ interests, including academic success, social interaction, networking, and potential changes in programming. Here you will have the opportunity to propose and run events, practice organization, and leadership skills, and networking with professionals. You will get the most support from the ISC and GSU, and most importantly, you will be working with other great people like you! If you are interested, don’t hesitate to send you application and resume to isc@utgsu.ca.

7. Sharing and Publishing Your Research
As part of the graduation process, you will be submitting an electronic copy of your thesis that will become publicly available online upon your convocation. In this talk given jointly by the School of Graduate Studies and the Library staff, you will learn about the thesis submission process, formatting guidelines, post-submission steps, as well as various deadlines for fees and convocation. If you are planning on publishing (or have already published) a chapter of your thesis as an article/book and are not sure about the copyright restrictions or implications of online availability, the library staff will be there to answer these and other questions about publishing, copyright, and author rights. 8. Attend the 3 R’s of Research: Review, Report, Reproduce
Happening on September 14, 2017, from 5-7pm in Gerstein Science Information Centre, 9 King’s College Circle.
Tired of poorly reported and non-reproducible research? What roles does uncertainty play in research? Hear from an international panel of researchers about issues that lead to this growing problem of research waste in the scientific world, and what steps you can take to improve your own reporting practices. 9. Orientation for Students with Family Responsibilities
Happening on Saturday, September 16, from 10 am to 1:30 pm at OISE, 252 Bloor Street West, Room 5150.Start building your support networks and learn how to be proactive and prepared so you can successfully navigate your degree while caring for others! Meet other student parents and university staff,  learn about services and resources available on campus and discover strategies and insights from current student parents on how to adjust to university life. Childcare and lunch will be provided. Registration required at 416.978.0951 or by email at
family.care@utoronto.ca. All prospective, new and current U of T student parents and their partner/spouse are welcome.
