1. GRADFEST on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018!
Calling all incoming and returning graduate students! Join us on Wednesday, September 5th, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm for UTGSU’s annual Fall Orientation: GRADFEST! Enjoy a day filled with free food, swag bags, games and a chance to learn about all the services provided through the UTGSU. You’ll also get the chance to interact with awesome graduate-specific information tables that will highlight all of the resources around campus. Keep a lookout on our UTGSU Facebook Page next week, where you’ll find our event page with more information!

2. Volunteers Needed for GRADFEST 2018
The UTGSU is seeking enthusiastic and reliable UTGSU members who are willing to volunteer at GRADFEST on Wednesday, September 5th from 4 pm to 7 pm. To volunteer, please contact Sophie at academics3and4@utgsu.ca with your name, preferred email and phone number. Duties will include but are not limited to: setting up, assisting info fair participants and clean-up. Volunteers will receive a free meal during the event, as well as a gift card! This is a great opportunity to learn more about your Union and meet folks from all over the university.

3. Callout for U of T Grad Student Musicians for GRADFEST 2018
Calling all U of T graduate student music talents! Do you love playing live? We’re looking for acoustic musicians (guitar, ukulele, clarinet, violin, vocals, etc.) to perform at GRADFEST 2018 on Wednesday, September 5th between 4 pm and 7 pm. If this is something you’re interested in, please contact Lynne at internal@utgsu.ca with your name, preferred email and phone number as well as what you would like to perform to help us prepare the schedule. Volunteer music talent will receive a free meal during the event, as well as a gift card! Feel free to bring your own promotional materials (flyers/business cards, etc).

4. UTGSU Office and HDI Office to Return to Regular Office Hours
The UTGSU office and HDI office will be going back to our regularly scheduled hour’s starting Monday, August 13th, 2018. Our UTGSU Office hours will be Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm and Thursdays from 12 pm to 5 pm. The UTGSU HDI Office will be open Mondays to Wednesdays from 10 am to 4 pm, Thursdays from 12 pm to 4 pm, and Fridays from 10 am to 3 pm.

5. Travel Insurance
Travel insurance is covered in your UTGSU Health and Dental Insurance plan. The coverage is for 120 days of each trip. Students who are leaving on a recognized academic exchange are also covered for the duration of their exchange and for another 120 days before and after their approved exchange. They must remain members of the UTGSU, pay fees to University of Toronto including the Health Plan fee and keep their provincial health-care coverage. 6. Health & Dental Insurance Plan Coverage After Convocation
If you are on the UTGSU Health and Dental Insurance Plan (i.e. if you had paid the Winter fees), and you are graduating in June, you will still be covered under the plan until August 31, 2018. For more information, please view your benefits package on www.studentcare.ca. If you require additional help, email the Health and Dental Office at health@utgsu.ca.

7. August UTGSU Gym Closure
Please note that the UTGSU gym is closed for the month of August for maintenance and Orientation activities. We will reopen on September 17, 2018. Reservations for gym bookings for September will take place on August 29, 2018 beginning at 10:00 AM via email gym@utgsu.ca or by calling 416-978-8464.

8. UTGSU Spring Cycle Conference Bursary 2018 Winners
Emails have been sent out to the winners of the Spring Cycle 2018 UTGSU Conference Bursary. If you haven’t received an email stating that you’ve been awarded a bursary, your application was not among those selected.

9. JOIN NOW your UNION’s Policy & Operations Standing Committee (POC)
This important Standing Committee of UTGSU Council oversees the Union’s legislation and governance practices. Based on your experience in governance and academic skills, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute to conceptualizing the POC Program for 2018-2019, editorial streamlining of existing documentation, or priority restructuring according to Not-for-profit Corporations Act legislation, also remembering housekeeping bylaws/policies concerning appeals, elections, and UTGSU’s own student mental & overall health legislation. We welcome motivated U of T Graduate Students who are willing to learn from scratch as well as those with any experience or interest in constitutional, corporate, and human rights law, policy and equity studies, or political philosophy. 10. Sexual Violence and Harassment Prevention in Fieldwork
Does your degree program involve fieldwork? Are you interested in working to develop a set of guidelines aimed to prevent sexual violence and harassment in the field and support survivors? If so, please contact Sam Stead at governance@utgsu.ca 

11. Choosing Childcare That Works for Your Family
On Wednesday, August 15th, 2018 at 12 pm, join the Family Care Office for a practical session to help you choose the childcare option that will best meet the needs of your family. At this session you will find out what are the childcare options available, learn what factors to consider when looking at options, choices, and caregivers; learn how to find a childcare centre and individual caregivers,  the latest changes in the system and find out about the financial assistance available and waiting lists.Registration required at http://uoft.me/4a5. University of Toronto students, staff, faculty, postdoctoral fellows and their families are welcome. Please let us know if you have any mobility challenges so we can accommodate your needs.
