1. Health & Dental Insurance Change-of-Coverage Period
Message from Your Health Plan Administrator: Welcome to the new Academic year. Starting September 1st 2018, please visit the Graduate Students’ Union website: www.utgsu.ca/insurance for the following:

Opt-In and Opt-Out Dates: September 1st-October 2, 2018 (no exceptions will  be made if you miss the deadlines)

2. Hiring: UTGSU General Council Chair and Council Secretary
The University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union is currently seeking to fill two positions on the UTGSU General Council (Chairperson and Secretary for the 2018-2019 academic year). Experience chairing governing bodies/board of directors, general meetings, experience as a Member of the UTGSU General Council, familiarity with Bourinot’s/Robert’s Rules of Order, and experience with anti-oppression practices are all assets. Preference will be given to Members of the UTGSU, but all experienced candidates are welcome to apply. Remuneration: $150/meeting; approximately 9 meetings per year, beginning in September. Auxiliary responsibilities may be required. 4. UTGSU Gym Bookings – October
Gym bookings for the month of October will take place on September 28, 2018 beginning at 10:00 AM by email gym@utgsu.ca or by calling 416-978-8464.

MondayTuesdayWednesday – 1 hour time slot from 5-6:00 PM for badminton
Thursdays – 1 hour time slots for 5, 6 and 7:00 PM for basketball. 8-11:00 PM Drop in basketball.
Fridays – 1 hour time slots for badminton 5-11 PM. 
5. Grad Minds Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Workshop
Grad Minds is hosting a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Workshop next Thursday September 27th from 5:30-7 pm in Medical Sciences Building Room 4171! CBT is a proven method for dealing with anxiety and depression. In this workshop you will have the opportunity to learn more about what Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is, why is it so popular, what a therapist does in a CBT session, and how to know if CBT is right for you! Our speaker is Dr. Tanaya Chatterjee, who is a Clinical Psychologist at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). 6. Student Parents Pub & Pizza Night October 4th!
Kick off your children’s long weekend! The Family Care Office, UTGSU, and Hart House present a fun and relaxing night for student parents and their children. We will have activities for your child at Grad Loft where they can do their homework, make buttons, colour, and play with other children in a supervised area. We will offer beverages and pizza for all.  Don’t miss out!  Register at family.care@utoronto.ca with your child’s name and age. Also, please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or accommodation requests. All U of T student parents are welcome to attend!

7. Queer Orientation coming September 24th – 29th!
Queer Orientation (QO) is an opportunity for new and returning students, staff and faculty to make connections, engage in activities and have discussions related to LGBTQ+ communities. There are 42 events happening across all three campuses from September 24 – 29, 2018. 8. Sexual Education Centre Graduate Student Levy Opt-out: Monday October 1
University of Toronto graduate students who wish to opt out of their levy agreement with the University of Toronto Sexual Education Centre (SEC) and receive a refund of their fees can stop by the SEC office at (21 Sussex Ave, Unit 612). Refunds for the fall term are $0.50 for full-time graduate students and $0.25 for part-time graduate students. Please bring your University of Toronto Student ID and proof of enrolment. Drop in times for those wishing to opt-out are from 10am-6pmMonday to Friday, starting Monday September 17 and ending Monday October 1. To make alternate arrangements please contact utsec.financial@gmail.com.

9. Race and Ethnicity Caucus (REC) Executive Callout
The Race & Ethnicity Caucus (REC) is seeking graduate students interested in joining the executive committee. REC is committed to bringing to the forefront the unique challenges racialized graduate students encounter navigating through the university and the system. The REC is now actively hiring for positions within the executive committee that will be responsible for planning and organizing caucus activities over this year.

Co-funded by the School of Graduate Studies and the University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU), SGS Intramurals offer different levels of competition in many sports through leagues, tournaments, and special events. 12. Financial Assistance Fund Application Summer 2018
There are three funds that are available to summer Graduate Assistants and RD&G Assistants. Click here for a covering explanation and forms to fill out to receive benefits from the Financial Assistance Fund which is administered by your Union. Funds are provided by your Employer under the terms of the Collective Agreement with CUPE 3907. You may apply to more than one fund and only qualify if you worked in the summer of 2018. Please send your applications (including receipts) by email to treasurer@cupe3907.ca or submit them under the door at the office on the 8th floor of OISE, room 104, or by mail to the address on the forms. The deadline for applying is Friday September 21, 2018 at 23:59 hours. 

13. Transitioning to Gradlife Orientation (Monday, September 24th, 9am-3pm)
Incoming graduate students: Join a day of programming to help you make the transition to grad life.
