1. RSVP to the UTGSU Winter Welcome Social!
RSVP to the UTGSU Winter Welcome Social! Step out of the cold and into the Hart House Music Room for an evening filled with winter-themed snacks, games, and a raffle draw for great prizes! The UTGSU and Hart House, with sponsorship from SGS, have partnered on our Winter Welcome Social. The event will take place on January 14, 2019 from 6-8pm in the Hart House Music Room and all returning and incoming graduate students across all three campuses are welcome to attend. 2. Health and Dental Insurance Opt-out and Opt-in Period: January 1-31st, 2019
The Health and Dental Insurance Change-of-Coverage Period for NEW students only starting in January 2019 is January 1-31st, 2019. Full-time and part-time graduate students are automatically covered by the UTGSU Health and Dental Plan. There is no waiting period to be enrolled on the plan, however, there is a blackout period for students starting in January (until March 1st) for submitting the claims. The University sends the list of all active students directly to the broker to be uploaded to the Green Shield System after the enrolment period is completed. 3. Health and Dental Insurance Plan Coverage After Convocation
If you are currently covered by the UTGSU Health and Dental Insurance Plan, and you graduated in November, your coverage ends on December 31st, 2018 provided you paid all of the Fall fees. You are eligible to purchase the 12 Month Extended Coverage, The Opt-in dates are January 1-31st, 2019. For more information, please view your benefits package on: www.studentcare.ca. 4. Join the UTGSU Team as the Internal Commissioner
Join the UTGSU Team as the Internal Commissioner This position is open to any UTGSU Member. Duties include: scheduling the Executive and Council meetings; chairing the Policy and Operations Committee and the Building Management Subcommittee; facilitating and monitoring the Union’s Bylaw and Policy updates; attending a weekly Executive meeting and a monthly General Council meeting, and writing weekly reports outlining your activities. 5. Now Hiring Deputy Returning Officer for 2019 Election
The Chief Returning Officer (CRO) is seeking to hire a Deputy Returning Officer (DRO) to assist in the 2019 UTGSU Elections. Prior election experience, experience with the UTGSU or similar unions/organizations, or supervisory experience would all be considered assets, but are not mandatory. The successful candidate can expect to work up to approximately 40 hours from January to March of 2019, with the majority of those hours taking place during the election period. There is no guarantee that the DRO will work for exactly 40 hours. The workload depends on demand. Remuneration for this position is $17/hour. International Students do not require Canadian Work Authorization for this position. 6. Volunteer Opportunity: APUS Tax Clinics
Are you interested in taxes? Looking for a volunteer opportunity this semester? Get involved with APUS & UTGSU as a tax return volunteer! APUS & UTGSU is hosting our annual free tax clinic where our volunteers help part-time students prepare income tax and benefit returns. Volunteers receive training from the Canada Revenue Agency and are eligible for recognition of volunteer service. 7. Volunteer Call Out: Join the UTGSU Anti-Racism Strategy & Action Plan Working Group
Want to address anti-racism issues on campus and contribute to the creation of an anti-racism strategy? Join the UTGSU Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan Working Group! We’re seeking racialized students, allies, and critical friends to join us for up to 5-10 hours a month (January to April 2019) to build a robust strategy and implementation plan. Expertise and/or experience in the fields of anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, and social justice advocacy is highly valued but not necessary. Join the Working Group by emailing Cristina Jaimungal, UTGSU External Commissioner and Chair of the UTGSU Equity and Advocacy Committee, at external@utgsu.ca by January 25, 2019 with the subject line “UTGSU Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan: Working Group”. Interested members will be invited to participate in a doodle poll and will be contacted with meeting details by Thursday, January 31, 2019.

8. Bikechain Winter Cycling Workshop
While Toronto in January may not be the ideal place for a bike ride, with a little preparation, winter riding is totally doable! Join Bikechain on Wednesday, January 23rd from 6:30-8:00 to discuss proper gear, setting up and maintaining your bike, and tricks and tips to keep safe while riding in the winter. 9. Rainbow Tie Gala
The UTSC Positive Space Committee annual Rainbow Tie Gala is a time to celebrate our vibrant community of LGBTQIA2S+ and supporters at UTSC. Join them on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 from 5 – 8 pm at the UTSC Meeting Place (Science Wing). Wear your most colourful outfit for a night of performances, guest speakers, activities, food, drinks, dancing, and celebrating our unique stories. This year there are incredible performances by Priyanka Love and Boiband the Boyband, along with student performances as well! They will also have community organizations present including Alliance for South Asian AIDS prevention, Salaam Canada, Glad Day Bookshop/Café, Toby’s Place, EGALE Canada and more. 10. Now Hiring – Dr Chun Resource Library Coordinator Position
Are you skilled in archival and library coordination and passionate about social justice? OPIRG and the CWTP are hiring a Library Coordinator for the Dr Chun Resource Library! The Library Coordinator is in charge of curating and helping run the community archive and library funded and housed by the Centre for Women and Trans People UofT and OPIRG Toronto. This includes purchasing and procuring new additions, coordinating social justice based literary programming, and helping curate the massive collection of rare and limited print materials currently maintained by the CWTP and OPIRG. The position is a year long part-time student worker contract at a true living wage of $21 an hour. You can find details at this link
