1. Nomination Period will Open for UTGSU Elections on January 23rd
The UTGSU Executives play a pivotal role in providing a voice for graduate students and actively engaging with both students and the administration to provide solutions to your student issues. Nominations for the UTGSU Executive Team for 2019 -2020 will open on January 23rd until 8:00 am on Friday February 15th 2019. The term of office for these positions is May 1, 2019 to April 30, 2020. The honorarium for a full Executive position each month is approximately $1228.96. Don’t miss out! Nomination forms are available at the UTGSU office (16 Bancroft Ave) during regular business hours (Monday to Friday 10:00 am – 5:00 pm), online at www.utgsu.ca/elections or by special arrangement with the CRO (email cro@utgsu.ca) after January 23rd at 12:01 am. 2. Gym Bookings for February
UTGSU Gym time can be reserved for the month of February, 2019 on January 30, 2019 starting at10:00 am. To book a one-hour time slot please send an email to gym@utgsu.ca. or call 416-978-8464.  Please note that emails are preferredIn your email please list the player’s Names and Student ID numbers which are verified when booking.  From Monday to Wednesday evenings, from 5-6:00 PM Badminton can be reserved for one hour timeslots. Thursday evenings from 5-8 PM can be reserved for one hour timeslots for basketball or students can drop in for pick-up basketball from 8-11pm. A one-hour timeslot on Friday Evenings from 5-11pm can be reserved for doubles badminton. Students must provide their T-card upon request. Please note that timeslots are booked very quickly on a first come first serve basis.

3. Health and Dental Insurance Opt-out and Opt-in Period: January 1-31st, 2019
The Health and Dental Insurance Change-of-Coverage Period for NEW students only starting in January 2019 is January 1-31st, 2019. Full-time and part-time graduate students are automatically covered by the UTGSU Health and Dental Plan. There is no waiting period to be enrolled on the plan, however, there is a blackout period for students starting in January (until March 1st) for submitting the claims. The University sends the list of all active students directly to the broker to be uploaded to the Green Shield System after the enrolment period is completed. 4. Health and Dental Insurance Plan Coverage After Convocation
If you are currently covered by the UTGSU Health and Dental Insurance Plan, and you graduated in November, your coverage ends on December 31st, 2018 provided you paid all of the Fall fees. You are eligible to purchase the 12 Month Extended Coverage, The Opt-in dates are January 1-31st, 2019. For more information, please view your benefits package on: www.studentcare.ca. 5. Join the UTGSU Team as the Internal Commissioner
Join the UTGSU Team as the Internal Commissioner This position is open to any UTGSU Member. Duties include: scheduling the Executive and Council meetings; chairing the Policy and Operations Committee and the Building Management Subcommittee; facilitating and monitoring the Union’s Bylaw and Policy updates; attending a weekly Executive meeting and a monthly General Council meeting, and writing weekly reports outlining your activities. The honorarium is approximately $1,200 per month. For more information or with an accessibility request, please contact our Executive Director at executivedirector@utgsu.ca. 6. Volunteer Opportunity: APUS Tax Clinics
Are you interested in taxes? Looking for a volunteer opportunity this semester? Get involved with APUS & UTGSU as a tax return volunteer! APUS & UTGSU are hosting our annual free tax clinic where our volunteers help part-time students prepare income tax and benefit returns. Volunteers receive training from the Canada Revenue Agency and are eligible for recognition of volunteer service. 7. Volunteer Call Out: Join the UTGSU Anti-Racism Strategy & Action Plan Working Group
Want to address anti-racism issues on campus and contribute to the creation of an anti-racism strategy? Join the UTGSU Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan Working Group! We’re seeking racialized students, allies, and critical friends to join us for up to 5-10 hours a month (January to April 2019) to build a robust strategy and implementation plan. Expertise and/or experience in the fields of anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, and social justice advocacy is highly valued but not necessary. Join the Working Group by emailing Cristina Jaimungal, UTGSU External Commissioner and Chair of the UTGSU Equity and Advocacy Committee, at external@utgsu.ca by January 25, 2019 with the subject line “UTGSU Anti-Racism Strategy and Action Plan: Working Group”. Interested members will be invited to participate in a doodle poll and will be contacted with meeting details by Thursday, January 31, 2019.

8. Student Parents Pizza Night (children are welcome)
Kick off your children’s PA Day weekend! The Family Care Office, UTGSU, and Hart House present a fun and relaxing night for student parents and their children. We will have activities for your child at Grad Loft where they can do their homework, make buttons, colour, and play with other children while we meet in the same space. Pizza for U of T student parents and their children. Don’t miss out! Register at family.care@utoronto.ca with your child’s name and age. Also, please let us know if you have any dietary requirements or accommodation requests. 9. Grad Minds Mental Health Roundtable Discussion Event for Faculty and Students!
Many students indicate that a large contributor to their mental health challenges during graduate school is their relationship with their supervisors and faculty, and lack of education and awareness among faculty about student mental health. An important way to improve on this is to open up the conversation between students and faculty about mental health. Grad Minds is hosting a Mental Health Roundtable Discussion between students and faculty to facilitate this conversation. Any faculty member and graduate student is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served! Date: Tuesday January 22nd 2019, Time: 5:30-6:30 pm, Location: Medical Sciences Building Rooms 2290 and 2394. Come to room 2394 at event start. 10. Lead with Pride X Conference
Are you a U of T student looking to build community, engage in discussions around LGBTQ+ and related topics, and develop an understanding of anti-oppression work? Be a part of the 10th annual Lead with Pride, U of T’s annual LGBTQ+ student leadership conference! This year, Lead with Pride will take place on Friday, February 1st and Saturday, February 2nd, 2019. This unique two-day conference, organized by a team of students and staff, brings students together to learn about LGBTQ+ issues, leadership and community building on campus and beyond. Lead with Pride X is open to U of T students across all three campuses from all academic disciplines. We encourage all interested students to apply, including current student leaders, volunteers with LGBTQ+ groups, and new students looking to connect with LGBTQ-related student organizations for the first time. 11. Launch to Leadership
Launch to Leadership helps women-identified students access employment within the field of sport and recreation by offering funding assistance for certification courses, such as Standard First Aid, personal training certifications and more. Getting certified opens up a world of employment and leadership opportunities! The program is open to current U of T students enrolled in part-time or full-time studies.
