Opting-Out & Opting-In

**All opt-out/opt-in periods are announced in the weekly UTGSU Digest**
**No exceptions will be made if the opt-out date is missed**

How to Opt-Out

To opt-out, you must show proof of equivalent insurance (not OHIP). You must opt-out annually, at the beginning of the term you are first registered in. You cannot rejoin the plan after you have opted-out, so check the expiry date on your insurance. Visit www.studentcare.ca to opt-out online.

How to Opt-In

To opt-in your dependents, you must opt-in them in annually, at the beginning of the term you are first registered in.  This is an annual plan.  You cannot opt in your dependents for one semester only. Visit www.studentcare.ca to opt-in online.

IMPORTANT: The Health & Dental Insurance Change-of-Coverage Period for NEW students only starting in January 2017 is January 1-January 30, 2017

Opt-Out Reimbursements

Health and Dental Insurance Direct Deposit opt-out refunds will be issued on November 28th. Cheques will also be mailed out on November 28th. You should have received an application number after you opted-out. That is your confirmation that your opt-out went through, and, if there are any discrepancies, please send an email to: health@utgsu.ca and refer to the confirmation number and your student number and we will investigate your opt out.​
The Opt-Out cheques will be mailed out in November 2016 for the fall session, and, again in March 2017 for the winter session. If you do not receive your cheques by the end of April, please forward the confirmation email you received when you opted out and we will forward it to the broker for investigation. You now also have an option for “direct deposit”. If you wish to use this option, please indicate this on the opt-out form and provide your banking information.
